Joel Przybilla already has the defensive skills and size to play in the NBA. He led the nation for part of the year in shot blocking and is a force in the middle both clogging up the lane and rebounding. The big knock on Przybilla is his offense.
He was one of the most sought-after players in Minnesota history and was a good player for the Golden Gophers but was suspended 21 games into last season for academic violations. Shortly thereafter, he officially quit the team and declared himself eligible for the draft. Some have suggested that comments from Ohio State Head Coach Jim O'Brien regarding NBA telling him Przybilla would be a sure lottery selection if he came out this year helped Przybilla make his decision.
He should be a lottery pick simply because of the lack of centers both in the NBA and in the draft, but he will have to be brought along slowly because his defensive skills are good but he desperately needs to add bulk and some type of offense to his game.

Outstanding defender. He has great shot-blocking skills and is a good rebounder. He also has very good passing skills for a big man.

|
Offense, what's offense? Przybilla has basically no game on offense. In addition, he really needs to bulk up to pound with NBA big men on a regular basis.

| Przybilla on the Rockets? |
|
|
Some mock drafts have suggested that the Rockets might take Przybilla but he really doesn't fit the typical Rockets center mold unless Serge Zwikker is your typical Rockets center! There is a distinct possiblity that he will be gone by the number 9 pick, but even if he is around, Przybilla probably won't be the pick the Rockets make because, despite his defensive skills, athletic he is NOT.
