| Clutchcity.net Notes on Caron Butler |
Caron Butler can do it all. The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 20.3 points on 48.5% shooting, 7.5 boards and 2.1 steals last season, his sophomore effort at the University of Connecticut. He also hit 40% (30-75) of his threes. Butler led the Huskies to the Big East Tournament title, earning MVP honors, and had a very strong NCAA tournament, averaging 26.5 points on over 55% shooting and nailed 8-16 from beyond the arc in 4 games. In the finale, Connecticut's Elite Eight matchup against Maryland, Butler scored 32 points on 10-13 shooting (3-5 long range), 7 boards and 4 assists. Scored in double figures in all 34 UConn games. Has two children, his oldest daughter being 6.
Said UConn coach Jim Calhoun, "When you measure a player, you measure: Does he produce wins and does he produce at winning times? That's what he does. Caron is as good as anyone we've had in providing leadership."

| Strengths of Caron Butler |
Plays the game with a warrior-type approach. Built like a rock - very tough. Very good rebounder for his size and position. Versatility is a strong point. Can knock down the rock from long range or take it inside and finish with authority. Tremendous awareness on both sides of the floor. Praised highly for his defense.

| Weaknesses of Caron Butler |
He's "just" 6-foot-7, and having to guard Nowitzki, Garnett and other big threes could present problems. Some say he could be a tweener since he may not have the height to play three. Was a serious character problem early on, having been in jail busted for drugs, but has turned his life around.

| Butler on the Rockets? |
All indications are the Rockets love Caron Butler and the toughness and intangibles he brings to his team. He would look fantastic in the pinstripes alongside Francis, Mobley and Griffin. The Rockets view the small forward and center spots as their biggest needs, but taking Caron at the top spot might be a stretch. If the Rockets aren't sold on Ming at #1, they could certainly look to trade down to select a Butler or Dunleavy.
